Who he is

Who is Dr. Victor Batistela?

Dr. Victor Batistela is a neurosurgeon whose practice is dedicated to diseases of the spine and the nervous system. He holds an international certification in robotic spine surgery, obtained in Philadelphia, in the United States, and combines his experience with ongoing scientific training and individualized care.

He was part of the team responsible for the first spine surgery with the ExcelsiusGPS® robot performed in Brazil, at the Hospital Evangélico de Londrina — a milestone in his career and in the use of this technology in the country.

He is a preceptor (residency supervisor) in the Medical Residency programs of the Hospital Evangélico de Londrina and the Hospital do Câncer de Londrina, contributing to the training of new specialists.

He is also a member of the Brazilian Society of Neurosurgery (Sociedade Brasileira de Neurocirurgia), the Brazilian Academy of Neurosurgery (Academia Brasileira de Neurocirurgia) and the North American Spine Society (NASS), in the United States.

At the Hospital Evangélico de Londrina, he coordinates the regional outpatient clinic for neurotrauma, neurovascular conditions, spine and cerebrospinal fluid dynamics (hydrocephalus). Technology

Spine surgery assisted by the ExcelsiusGPS® robot

Dr. Victor Batistela is certified to perform surgeries with the ExcelsiusGPS® (Globus Medical).

ExcelsiusGPS® is a robotic navigation platform developed by Globus Medical for spine surgery. It brings together, in a single system, image-based planning and real-time navigation during the procedure.

Before surgery, imaging studies of the patient’s spine are imported into the platform. Based on that specific anatomy, a surgical plan is drawn up defining the position and size of each implant. During the procedure, a rigid robotic arm aligns itself with the planned trajectory and holds it, while the surgeon guides the placement of the screws with real-time visual monitoring.

The aim of the technology is to increase the precision of implant positioning and to enable less invasive approaches in selected cases. The indication, however, remains individual: the technique is a tool in the service of planning, not a replacement for clinical evaluation.

  • Planning based on the patient’s own anatomy
  • Real-time navigation
  • Rigid robotic arm aligned with the planned trajectory

Online appointment

Remote evaluation, with the same attention

An online appointment allows an initial evaluation, a review of imaging studies and guidance on the next steps without travel. Some cases require an in-person physical examination — when that happens, Dr. Victor explains how to organize the trip to Londrina.
